Faculty Learning Community
Are you ready to reimagine how students learn and thrive in your classroom?
Join a community of passionate educators exploring innovative, hands-on-strategies that spark curiosity and deepen engagement- across disciplines and beyond traditional boundaries. Service-learning at VCU invites faculty from all disciplines to apply to participate in a new Faculty Learning Community (FLC) focused on “Reimagining the Classroom with Service-Learning.”
About the FLC
This year-long FLC will bring together a small, interdisciplinary cohort of faculty to explore how experiential learning can deepen student engagement, enhance learning outcomes, and foster real-world skill development. Co-facilitated by two faculty leaders, the FLC will provide space for reflection, experimentation, and collaborative learning.
Participants will:
- Engage in meetings (frequency determined by the group) and discussions focused on experiential learning theory and practice
- Explore and apply innovative teaching strategies that center student experience and reflection
- Collaborate on an individual or group project or deliverable (e.g., a course redesign, resource toolkit, or campus presentation)
- Share insights and lessons learned with the broader university community at the conclusion of the program
Who Should Apply:
This opportunity is open to all faculty—tenured, tenure-track, term, or adjunct—who are interested in using experiential learning to enhance their teaching. Staff or administrators who also teach are welcome to apply. You don’t need to be an expert—whether you're just getting started or have lots of experience, we invite you to join us.
Time Commitment:
- Fall 2025 - Spring 2026 (meeting frequency TBD by the group)
- Occasional readings or small project work between sessions
- Final deliverable in spring 2026
